Checkout Display Settings

How does Grapevine Surveys decide which survey to display?

Written by Steve Jones

When multiple surveys are published to the checkout app block, each with their own Display Rules, the Checkout Display Settings control how Grapevine decides which survey to show. You'll find these settings on the Settings page within the Grapevine Surveys app:

Survey priority

This setting determines which survey is displayed when more than one published survey's Display Rules match the current checkout.

Show the most relevant (default)

The survey with the most matching Display Rules takes priority. For example, if one survey targets both a specific product and new customers (2 rules), it will be shown instead of a survey that only targets new customers (1 rule).

If multiple surveys have the same number of matching rules, the one that was published most recently wins. Surveys without any Display Rules act as a fallback, they are only shown when no rule-based survey matches.

Show the most recently published

The survey that was published most recently is always shown, regardless of how many Display Rules it has. This is useful if you frequently rotate surveys and always want the latest one to take precedence.

Show all matching surveys

Every survey whose Display Rules match the current checkout will be displayed on the page. Customers will see multiple surveys stacked on the Thank You or Order Status page. This is ideal if you want to collect responses to more than one survey per order.

Show next survey after completion

When enabled, if a customer completes the first survey shown to them, Grapevine will automatically check whether another eligible survey is available and display it.

This is particularly useful for returning customers who revisit their Order Status page. If they've already completed one survey, they'll be presented with the next matching survey instead of seeing nothing.

This setting is automatically enabled when the survey priority is set to Show all matching surveys.
