Grapevine Surveys is an app block compatible app, making it much easier for merchants to add post-purchase surveys to their order thank you and order status pages directly from Shopify's checkout editor.
What is app block compatibility?
With app block compatible post-purchase pages, merchants can make code-free customizations to their checkout post-purchase pages by including blocks created by the apps that they currently use. The goal is to enhance the buying journey by building more personalised post-checkout experiences for customers.
Once your store has been migrated to use app block compatible post-purchase pages, you can use the Shopify checkout editor to include your post-purchase survey into your thank you and order status pages.
Which of my surveys will be displayed?
Your post-purchase checkout pages will display the survey that has been made visible on the Checkout app block channel within the Grapevine Surveys app.
You can configure Display Rules on each survey to control exactly who sees it. Display Rules let you target surveys based on:
Customer type: show the survey to new customers only, or returning customers only.
Order value: show the survey when the order total is above, below, or within a certain range.
Products in the order: show the survey when specific products are (or are not) in the cart.
Payment method: show the survey based on the payment method used at checkout (e.g. Shopify Payments, PayPal, DivideBuy). If your payment gateway isn't listed, please let us know and we'll add it.
Rules can be combined with AND or OR logic. For example, you could show a product feedback survey only to returning customers who ordered a specific product.
If you don't add any Display Rules, the survey will be shown to all customers.

Adding the Grapevine Surveys app block to your post-purchase pages
Thank You page
Within the Shopify Admin, go to Settings > Checkout and you will see a card titled Checkout customization. Click on the Customize button to enter the checkout editor:

The Grapevine Surveys app block can be added to both the Thank You page (the initial post-purchase page after checkout) and the Order Status page (the page used to display the order summary at any point after the initial purchase).
You will need to add the Grapevine Surveys app block for each post-purchase page separately, however, the steps you need to take are almost identical for each.
You will see the option to customize the Thank you page or Order status page by clicking on the dropdown in the top bar of the checkout editor:
Let's go ahead and customize the Thank you page first.
Within the checkout editor, click on the dropdown selector at the top of the page and select the Thank you page.
Once the page loads, take a look at the left-hand panel of the checkout editor, locate the Order details section and select the + Add app block link at the bottom of that section:
Grapevine Surveys will then appear as an available app block to be selected:
Click on the Survey Form app block and the checkout editor preview panel will update to show your post-purchase survey on your Thank you page:
Hit the Save button in the top right of the checkout editor.
Order Status page
Within the checkout editor, click on the dropdown selector at the top of the page and select the Order status page.
Once the page loads, take a look at the left-hand panel of the checkout editor, locate the Order status section and select the + Add app block link at the bottom of that section:
Click on the Survey Form app block and the checkout editor preview panel will update to show your post-purchase survey on your Order status page:
Hit the Save button in the top right of the checkout editor.
Please note:
We would recommend that you do not place your survey app block within the Order summary section as this section will be hidden on mobile devices.
That's it!
Your survey will start to appear on your app block compatible post-purchase pages.
How will survey responses via the app block appear in the app?
Once you have added the Grapevine Surveys app block to your Order status page and/or the Thank you page, you should start receiving survey responses into the app.
Responses submitted via app block compatible post-purchase pages will show as coming from either of the following channels:
Order Status Page (Extensible Checkout)
Thank you Page (Extensible Checkout)
You will see these channels listed against your survey responses:
The graphs you see when viewing a survey will also be filterable by these channels.
You will also able to determine if customers are more likely to submit your survey on the Thank you page immediately after a purchase, or at a later date when revisiting their order details on the Order status page by looking at the Responses Over Time by Channel chart:
FAQs
Are my surveys fully compatible with checkout app blocks? For example, I have configured my survey to only be answered once per customer. Will those settings still be applied?
Surveys added to the Order status page and Thank you page using the checkout editor will observe all settings and publishing options configured for your survey, including tagging, limiting to one response per customer, Display Rules (customer type, order value, and product-based targeting), and language targeting.
Can I style checkout app block surveys?
Whilst the styling of your post-purchase survey is not possible when delivered via a checkout app block, you can customize the branding of your checkout pages in the checkout editor where you can add your brand's logo, add a background image, change the colors, and choose a new font to make the checkout page match your brand.

What channels should I make my surveys visible on for them to work with my app block compatible post-purchase pages?
You need to make sure that your survey has the Checkout app block channel enabled within the Manage Visibility panel of the survey editor in the Grapevine Surveys app. This single channel covers both the Thank You page and the Order Status page.
You can optionally add Display Rules to control which customers see the survey (e.g. new customers only, high-value orders, or orders containing specific products). See our Display Rules article for more details.
Will my Grapevine Surveys automatically appear on the Order status page and the Thank you page or do I have to add them manually using the checkout editor?
You will need to make sure that you have added the Grapevine Surveys app block to both the Order status page and the Thank you page using Shopify's checkout editor.
Will the Google Analytics integration still create GA events when a survey response is received?
Unfortunately, surveys that appear on the Order Status Page are unable to send events to Google Analytics. Only surveys on the Thank You Page (the page that is shown once immediately after checkout) support the creation of Google Analytics events when a survey is submitted.
