If a respondent selects Other on a single choice question and types in their own response, you can reclassify that answer to one of the question's existing options directly from the Responses page.
This is useful for cleaning up your data. For example, if respondents type in a free-text "Other" answer that actually matches one of your predefined options, reclassifying those responses correctly in your reports.
You can reclassify responses one at a time, or in bulk.
Please note:
Reclassifying is only available for the main Other option on single choice questions. It isn't available on:
Multiple answer (multi-select) questions
Sub-options where a sub-option's own "Other" has been selected.
Reclassify a single response
To reclassify a single response, go to View responses and switch to Table view:
Find the "Other" answer you want to reclassify (it appears as free text, marked with an asterisk, *other), and click the Reclassify icon next to it.
Click the dropdown to then choose the option you'd like to reassign the response to:
Click Reclassify and it's updated.
Reclassify multiple responses at once
If you have several "Other" responses to clean up, you can reclassify them in bulk. In Table view, select the checkboxes next to all the responses you want to reclassify:
Click Reclassify other responses at the top of the table:
The dialog shows a dropdown for each question where at least one of your selected responses has an "Other" answer, along with a summary of how many of your selected responses actually have an "Other" answer to reclassify.
For each question you want to update, choose the fixed option you'd like those "Other" responses reclassified to then click Reclassify to apply the changes.
You don't need to fill in every dropdown. If you leave a question set to "—" (the dropdown's unset state), its "Other" responses are simply left as they are, and reclassifying is only applied to the questions that you set an option for.
